The short answer
The SafeMarket helps design vault rooms, supplies the door, and installs and anchors it with our own crews across Georgia; your builder or our partner contractor handles framing, concrete and electrical. More than 300 vault doors installed, up to 2,500 lb. Doors run $4,139 to $9,828; the room depends on construction. Homes get in-swing doors only.

Start the Quote With Five Answers
Every vault room quote starts the same way, and you can start it right here. We need:
- Your city (the drive sets the install day and the rigging plan)
- Room size (inside dimensions, or the plan if it is a new build)
- Door you have in mind (or “help me choose”)
- New build or existing room
- Wall type (poured concrete, block, wood stud, or “not sure”)
Send that and you will hear from an advisor, not a sales queue. If the honest answer is that a large safe serves you better than a room, we will say so. We are not trying to sell you a thing; we are trying to provide you a solution.
Who Does What
The question people ask first is “do you do the whole thing?” Here is the straight answer.
| Part of the job | The SafeMarket | Your builder or our partner contractor |
|---|---|---|
| Room design, door selection, interior layout | Yes | |
| Wall and ceiling construction (concrete, block, reinforced stud) | We specify it | Builds it |
| Door supply | Yes, from Liberty, Rhino Metals and AMSEC | |
| Rigging and delivery of the door (up to 2,500 lb to date) | Yes, our crews and equipment | |
| Door installation and anchoring | Yes | |
| Electrical, lighting, ventilation, dehumidification | We help design it | Installs it |
| Drywall, finish, flooring inside the room | Yes | |
| Permits and inspections | We supply door specs for the submittal |
We have partner contractors we have worked with on vault rooms before. If you already have a builder, we work with yours; the earlier they hear from us, the cheaper the room is.

Vault Rooms We Have Built in Atlanta
Some of these were ordinary. Some of them were straight out of a Hollywood movie. Shutting down a street in Buckhead to lower a safe through four floors, a helicopter lift to a mountain house. In almost five decades in Atlanta we have become so accustomed to the ordinary and the outrageous that it all feels like just another day’s work.
- Storm-shelter vault room in a south Georgia slab home
- Walk-in gun room with an in-swing Rhino door in north Fulton
- Jewelry and watch vault in a Buckhead estate
- Basement conversion in a 1920s Peachtree Street home
- A 2,500 lb door going in on rollers
In-Swing or Out-Swing, and Why Drywall Is Not a Wall
Two things we will not compromise on, because they are life-safety issues.
The door swings in.
Put an out-swing vault door in a private residence and one day it will trap someone inside. We mean that. A vault room in a house will, at some point, be used as a storm shelter or a panic room, by you or by whoever owns the house next. If debris lands against an out-swing door, or someone pushes a dresser against it, the people inside are trapped in the room that was supposed to protect them. An in-swing door opens into the room no matter what is outside. For a home, we install in-swing doors only. Out-swing doors go on commercial vaults and rooms where the layout rules it out.
In-swing versus out-swingThe wall is the product.
A vault door installed on a drywall wall is completely worthless. A burglar does not attack a 1,000-pound door; he goes through the wall next to it with a drywall saw. The door is only as strong as what it is bolted to, and what it is bolted to should be poured concrete, filled and reinforced block, or a stud wall sheathed in steel plate at minimum. We will tell you which your room needs and what each one costs to build. If the wall is not right, we will not hang the door on it.
Doors We Carry

| Door | Swing | Security level | Fire rating | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Liberty Blockade | In (right or left hinge) | Level 2 | $4,139 | |
| Rhino Metals Out-Swing | Out (commercial) | Level 6 | 120 minutes | From $6,518 |
| AMSEC ProFit | In (right-hand) | Level 7 | None | From $6,881 |
| Liberty Beast | In or out, right or left hinge; in for homes | Level 8 | 150 minutes | $8,899 |
| Rhino Metals In-Swing | In (residential) | Level 5 | 90 minutes | $9,268; Ironworks finish $9,828 |
A fire-rated door is not a fire-rated room. The rating on the door tells you what the door resists; the ceiling, the walls and the ventilation decide what the room does in a fire. We cover that in the design.

What a Vault Room Costs
The door is the known number, $4,139 to $9,828 on our floor plus installation. The room is the variable. A vault room in a new build, planned before the slab is poured, costs a fraction of the same room cut into a finished house, because the concrete and the framing go in with the rest of the construction instead of after it. An existing room with poured basement walls on three sides costs the least to convert. A stud-wall room that has to be rebuilt in block or sheathed in plate is the most expensive conversion.
We quote the whole project after a site visit or a plan review, and we tell you which parts are our invoice and which are the contractor’s.

Design reviewAn advisor reviews the room, picks the door, specifies the walls, lighting and ventilation, and works out the rigging route. For a new build, this happens before drywall; once drywall is in, that window is gone.
-
ConstructionYour builder or our partner builds the enclosure to the spec. We stay in the loop on the rough opening.
-
Door delivery and installOur crew rigs the door in, hangs it, anchors the frame and seals it. Every home is different; a 2,500-pound door on a terrace level is a different day than one on a slab in a garage.

Three Paths From Here
If you are weighing it as a storm shelter
See the vault room tornado shelter guide
A properly built vault room with reinforced walls and an inswing door is a structure that stands when the walls around it do not. Our advisors have seen it happen in Georgia.
If you are building a new home
See the new home build planning guide
Vault room planning in new construction has to happen at the framing stage, before walls close and before drywall goes up. Once that window closes, the same vault room costs significantly more to achieve.
If you are planning what goes inside

In Georgia’s climate, dehumidification is not optional for firearms storage. The circuit for it has to be planned before the walls close. Here is the full interior planning framework.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who installs vault doors in Atlanta?
The SafeMarket installs vault doors across Georgia with its own crews and has installed more than 300 of them, including doors up to 2,500 pounds. We supply the door, rig it into the room, anchor the frame and set the lock. Your builder or our partner contractor builds the room itself.
How much does it cost to build a vault room?
The door runs $4,139 to $9,828 at The SafeMarket plus installation, and the room depends on whether it is planned into a new build, converted from a concrete basement room, or rebuilt from a stud-wall room. A new-build room planned before the slab is the least expensive route. We quote the full project after a site visit or plan review.
Can you turn an existing closet or room into a vault?
Yes, if the walls can be made right. A poured-concrete basement room is the easiest conversion. A stud-wall room has to be rebuilt in block or sheathed in steel plate before a door makes sense, because a vault door on drywall is worthless. We assess the walls before we quote a door.
Should a vault door swing in or out?
In, for any room in a house. An in-swing door cannot be blocked from outside by storm debris or an intruder, so the people sheltering inside can always get out. Out-swing doors belong on commercial vaults and on rooms where the layout leaves no other option.
Does a vault room work as a tornado shelter?
A vault room built to the right spec does, and that is where many of our doors in central and south Georgia are going. The walls and ceiling have to be built for it, with an in-swing door and ventilation, and the room should be on the slab or below grade. Read our guide to vault rooms as tornado shelters in Georgia.
What size vault door do I need?
Most residential doors are built for a standard framed opening and come in two or three sizes; the Rhino out-swing door, for example, comes in four. The opening size is set during design so the builder frames to the door, not the other way round. Send us your plan and we will spec it.
Do you install vault doors outside Atlanta?
Yes. We install across Georgia and into the neighboring states, and a good share of our vault doors go into central and south Georgia. Travel is quoted by distance.
