A safe does not convey with the property unless you want it to. If you are selling your home and taking the safe with you, the move needs to be scheduled before closing. The anchor hardware has to be properly removed from the slab, which means filling and finishing the anchor holes if the buyer expects a clean slab, and the safe needs to arrive at the new home with its new location already planned. Floor and finish damage

General movers use furniture dollies not designed for safe weights. The contact point of a standard dolly wheel concentrates load on a small area, sufficient to dent hardwood, crack tile, or tear carpet at transitions.

Flooring repair or replacement at points along the delivery path. Threshold damage at room transitions. Stair tread damage if stairs are involved.

Safe tipping or drop during the move

A safe above 600 lbs that loses control on a slope, staircase, or floor transition can tip or slide. General movers do not have electric stair climbers rated for this weight class or the rigging experience to manage the load.

In the best case, cosmetic damage to the safe exterior. In the worst cases, catastrophic floor damage, structural damage to walls or stairs, or injury. If the safe is damaged by your mover, that is your problem, not ours.

Before the Move

The first call is a conversation about both locations, where the safe is now and where it is going. Doorway widths, hallway dimensions, stairs, floor types at both ends, and outdoor path conditions all factor into the equipment selection and crew size. Photos of both paths are the standard starting point for anything that is not a straight ground-floor move between adjacent rooms.

If the new location is in a home with new-construction slab construction, particularly in Kennesaw, Woodstock, Canton, Cumming, or any other north Atlanta corridor built in the last fifteen to twenty years, the post-tension cable location is confirmed before anchor work begins at the destination. Drilling into a post-tension slab without locating the cables is a life-safety issue, not just a property issue.

The Day of the Move

Floor protection goes down across the entire path before the safe moves. The anchor hardware at the current location is removed using the same approach as a professional anchor removal, assessed, documented, and if the customer needs the anchor holes repaired before closing or renovation handover, that work is coordinated. The safe is moved using equipment specific to its weight class: furniture dollies are not the equipment for this. A safe above 600 lbs is equipment-dependent work. Below that threshold, a strong crew with the right standard equipment can manage it. Above it, the margin for error on anything beyond a flat ground-floor path narrows to zero. Every crew member is briefed on the path, their position, and the load before any weight moves.

Re-anchoring at the New Location

A safe that arrives at its new location and is set down without re-anchoring is not installed; it is staged. Anchoring at the new location follows the same protocol as the original installation: slab assessment, anchor type selection for the floor material, and torque specification. For post-tension slab areas, a ground-penetrating assessment before drilling. The safe is shimmed to level, anchored, and the door swing is checked for neutral operation before the crew leaves.

After placement and anchoring, the lock is cycled through its full operation, and the door seal is inspected for compression or misalignment from the move. Homes built in the past 15 to 20 years in north Atlanta corridors, Kennesaw, Woodstock, Canton, Cumming, Alpharetta, Forsyth County, may have post-tension slab construction. If you are unsure, tell us the address and construction year. We will confirm before scheduling any anchor work.

Call before booking any other mover
