Replace the batteries, do not test, replace

Georgia's summer heat accelerates battery drain, and a battery that tested fine two weeks ago may be too weak to fire the solenoid. Wait 30 seconds after installing new batteries
The lock's electronics need a moment to reset after the battery swap. Wait at least 30 seconds with the new batteries installed before attempting to enter your combination. Entering the combination too quickly after a battery change is a common source of penalty lockout activations.
Enter your combination slowly and deliberately
After waiting, enter your combination with a clear pause between each digit. A keypad that is registering input slowly may miss rapid entries and record incorrect code attempts. A mechanical dial lockout is almost always one of three things: dial drift that has moved the combination slightly off the original setting, a handle that was not turned fully before dialing, or a miscount during the combination sequence. Run through these checks before calling.
Confirm your starting position
On most Group II mechanical dial locks, the sequence starts with at least three full rotations to the right to clear the previous position. If you skipped this step or started with fewer than three rotations, the lock will not open on the correct combination. Start over with a full clear.
Slow down and feel for the landing positions
A mechanical dial lock has three distinct landing points in the combination. Each one should have a noticeable feel, a slight catch or resistance at the correct number. If the lock has drifted, the landing points may be slightly off the original numbers. Try dialing each number about half a mark to the left and right of your usual stopping point to see if the position has shifted.
Check the handle direction and travel
After correctly dialing the combination, the handle must be turned in the correct direction and turned fully through its range. A handle that stops halfway does not mean the combination was wrong; it may mean the boltwork is not fully disengaged. Confirm you are turning the handle in the right direction and applying consistent pressure through the full range of motion.
