30 min Fire Protection

16 Gauge Steel
This is a clearance unit, one available, no restock. The CS1620 is AMSEC's fire-rated closet safe: 30-minute fire protection at 1,200 degrees F, CA DOJ handgun approval, concealed wall-mount hardware. If you've been looking for a closet safe that disappears into your bedroom storage, this is the one to move on.
The CS1620 provides household access control, not burglary deterrence. That distinction matters when you're deciding what to store here. The 16-gauge steel construction and proprietary boltwork are designed to manage unauthorized access within the home a child, a houseguest, or someone who doesn't belong in your bedroom closet. They are not designed to hold up against a determined forced entry with tools. In Atlanta, where burglary rates run roughly 2.3 times the national average, we're direct with customers about matching the right protection level to the actual threat. For everyday documents, jewelry, and a secure handgun location in your primary residence, the CS1620 does the job. For higher-stakes storage, you'd want a product with RSC certification and heavier construction.
Learn MoreThe CS1620 uses drywall fire-resistant construction gypsum composite insulation that lines the body and door. That's the same fire separation logic used in residential wall assemblies. Under standardized test conditions, that construction keeps the interior below critical temperature thresholds for 30 minutes at an external temperature of 1,200 degrees F. For paper documents, passports, and most standard valuables, 30 minutes at 1,200 degrees F is meaningful protection under the fire conditions typical of residential structure fires. It is a certified test result, not a guarantee of survival in every scenario. Placement matters a safe in an interior closet away from fuel sources faces different conditions than one adjacent to a window or garage wall. We've seen enough post-fire recoveries to know the difference placement makes.
Learn MoreTwo options: wall mount or shelf placement. Wall mounting uses the rear-mount system we'll need to confirm you have accessible wall studs at the target location. Standard stud spacing in Atlanta-area construction is 16 inches on center, but older construction and some newer rapid-build homes in the north suburbs vary. If you're wall mounting, identify stud locations before the safe arrives. For shelf placement, confirm the shelf is rated for at least 100 pounds 75 pounds of safe plus whatever you're storing. Most standard wire shelving in a walk-in closet handles this without issue. Solid wood or MDF shelving is fine. Lightweight ventilated systems with sagging or flex under load are not. In Atlanta's no-basement market, closet placement is what we see most often for this category. We've placed a lot of these on shelves in bedroom closets across the metro call us if you want to talk through your specific setup before you order.
